We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and support the financial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of assigned projects, including cost planning, procurement, contract administration, valuations, risk management and financial reporting.

You will work closely with project managers, design teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors to maintain commercial control, support project delivery and protect project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage cost planning, budgeting, forecasting and commercial reporting for assigned projects.
  • Prepare cost reports, cash flow forecasts, valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Monitor project expenditure, profitability, variations, risks and potential cost savings.
  • Administer NEC, JCT and bespoke contracts.
  • Review contract terms, manage contractual notices and identify commercial risks.
  • Lead procurement activity for subcontract packages, materials and specialist suppliers.
  • Obtain, assess and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract agreements, variations and change-control documentation.
  • Assess subcontractor applications, payment notices and final accounts.
  • Support the resolution of commercial issues, claims and disputes.
  • Produce regular financial and commercial reports for senior management.
  • Provide accurate cost, revenue and margin forecasts.
  • Attend client, design, progress and commercial meetings.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Provide commercial guidance to project teams and senior leadership.
  • Support tender reviews and pre-construction commercial activity where required

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • At least five years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role within industrial, commercial or specialist construction.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, JCT and bespoke contract administration.
  • Experience managing cost control, valuations, forecasting, variations and final accounts.
  • Experience procuring subcontract packages and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Strong financial reporting, analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel, cost-management software and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.

Desirable Experience

  • Chartered status with RICS, or active progress towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience within food manufacturing, cold storage, logistics, data centres, pharmaceutical, industrial or specialist refurbishment projects.
  • Experience working in live operational environments.
  • Knowledge of sustainable construction practices, modern methods of construction or alternative procurement routes.
