CDM Principal Contractor
Where a construction project involves, or is likely to involve, more than one contractor, the client must appoint a Principal Contractor in writing under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
The Principal Contractor plans, manages and monitors the construction phase so that teams carry out work safely and in line with statutory duties.

Managing the Construction Phase
The Principal Contractor prepares, develops and implements the Construction Phase Plan.
This document sets out how teams will manage health and safety during the build and establishes the site rules, risk controls, and management arrangements for the construction phase. The team must review and update the plan as the project progresses.

Coordinating Contractors and Site Activities
Construction sites often involve multiple contractors operating at the same time. The Principal Contractor coordinates these activities so teams can work safely and efficiently.

- planning and managing the construction phase in accordance with CDM duties

Communication and Collaboration
Effective communication is a core part of the Principal Contractor role. The Principal Contractor must work closely with the Principal Designer, designers, and contractors to ensure that design-stage risks are understood and managed correctly during construction. The role also includes sharing relevant health and safety information and coordinating cooperation across the site team.

This includes washing facilities, rest areas, drinking water, and sanitary provisions. The role also involves consulting and engaging with workers on health and safety matters during the project.
We ensure that all workers have access to appropriate welfare arrangements and that safe working conditions are maintained as the site evolves. Regular inspections and monitoring help maintain standards throughout the project.
